A multimedia installation consisting of sculpture, video, photography and painting about the harmful effects of air pollution on children. The purpose of this exhibition was to express the issue of air pollution through art. The artists tried to create spaces in which to realize their individual visions while complementing each other's works. My part consisted of 34 plaster, life-size sculptures of children. In January 1999 schools were ordered closed, people wore anti-pollution masks and state of emergency was announced. We too were suffering. At the same time we'd been looking for a subject for a group show. So, we commissioned ourselves an exhibition about the effect of air pollution on children. In this exhibition we tried to raise the issue of air pollution in our own ways through painting, photography, sculpture, and video. We created spaces in which we realised our individual visions while complementing each other's work. My sculptures illustrated an ideal world where children are happy and playful. The rest of the works of the three other participant artists ( Maziar Bahari, Sadegh Tirafkan, Khosrow Hasanzadeh ) depicted a reality that is far from the ideal. |
